Kakà (Ricardo Izecson dos Santos Leite) helped his team AC Milan win the 2007 edition of the UEFA Champions League, with the Brazilian scoring 10 goals along the way.

The result listed above was the outcome of a vote held among a panel of football journalists from 96 countries all over the world, with each allowed to pick a top five from a list of nominees selected by France Football. The player in first place received five points, the one in second received four points, etcetera, etcetera. Whereas previously a player had to be playing for a club in one of the countries belonging to UEFA in order to be nominated, this year players from all over the world were elligable. The award can therefore strictly speaking no longer be refered to as the European Footballer of the Year.

The following footballers were nominated but didn't receive any votes: Eric Abidal, David Beckham, Deco, Mahamadou Diarra, Diego, Miroslav Klose, Florent Malouda, Shunsuke Nakamura, Ricardo Quaresma, Raul, Paul Scholes, Luca Toni, Kolo Touré, Fernando Torres, and David Villa.
