The 1972 UEFA European Football Championship was hosted by Belgium. A West Germany that many consider the best German national team ever, captured the trophy with a seamless display of modern football. Featuring greats like Beckenbauer, Müller and Netzer, they had beaten England 3-1 at Wembley en route to the tournament. The West Germans made short work of the Soviet Union in the final, winning 3-0.
